Assistant Professor Romantic Poetry

The Department of English at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Romantic Poetry. Complementary expertise in literature of the long nineteenth century, drama, and the intersection of Romantic literature and culture with empire, slavery, science, technology, the environment, or book history is highly desirable. Candidates who bring a global or transatlantic perspective to these issues are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidate will join a Department of English that brings together three related areas of study – literature, drama and theatre, and cultural studies – and actively promotes research and teaching across specialist boundaries.

This position is at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment begins 1 August 2023. Job Duties

The successful candidate will be ready to participate in the intellectual and pedagogical life of the Department and the University, as well as in faculty governance and service. Responsibilities include: conducting original research; developing a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in keeping with the Department’s areas of study; and contributing as an academic citizen to the department, faculty, and university. The standard teaching load in the Department of English is 4 courses (12 credits) per academic year.

Qualifications and Education requirements

Applicants must have a PhD in hand or be very near completion. Evidence of scholarly promise is a major consideration; teaching experience is an asset for this position.
