Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Virginia Military Institute invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish position beginning 1 August 2023.

A Ph.D. in Spanish/Hispanic Studies is required but the specialization is open. The successful candidate will teach courses in language, literature, and culture. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English required. The standard teaching load is six courses per year (3-3) with required participation in academic advising, committee work, and scholarship. Mentoring of undergraduate research is highly encouraged. Faculty members at VMI wear uniforms and adhere to military customs, but military experience is not required.

Virginia Military Institute is a state-supported four-year undergraduate military college of liberal arts, engineering, and the sciences. It is located in the southern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Lexington, population 7,000, is also home to Washington and Lee University and offers a stimulating cultural atmosphere in a pleasant, rural setting.
