Lecturer of Hebrew

The Department of Modem Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) invites applications for the full-time lecturer position in Modern Hebrew beginning August 2023. The position is a non-tenured annual appointment, renewable in one-year increments every five years.

The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester from four sections of elementary and intermediate Hebrew language, two advanced conversation courses, and possibly an independent study which the lecturer may design.

Candidates must have an M.A. degree (minimum), experience in undergraduate language teaching; native command of Hebrew and English; enthusiasm and ideas to develop an interest in studying Modern Hebrew at CWRU.

The DMLL offers undergraduate majors and minors in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish; minors in Italian and Russian; and courses in Arabic and Portuguese. Courses in Hebrew language, culture, and literature will soon be added to the curriculum. The department is associated with interdisciplinary programs in World Literature, Women’s and Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, International Studies, and Judaic Studies. Department faculty lead short-term study abroad programs in Cuba, France, Japan, Jordan, Italy, Spain, and Taiwan. The department has also developed specialized language courses for the professions: health, business, law, engineering, and diplomacy.
