Two positions in English (Tenure Track & Visiting)

The Department of English at Loyola University New Orleans seeks applications for two positions: a tenure-track assistant professor, and a visiting assistant professor, to begin August 2023. This search is open field, and the search committee welcomes applicants from any area of literary studies, creative writing, or media studies. Especially of interest are applicants with promising programs of teaching and research in areas that contribute to Loyola’s strategic initiatives for enhancing inclusion and diversity.

Applicants should not only demonstrate excellence and imagination in their research areas, but be able to teach courses appealing to undergraduates both in the discipline and across the university. The department is especially looking for applicants who demonstrate strong mentorship potential for a small undergraduate campus, as well as applicants who show an avid interest in working collaboratively with students and colleagues. The English Department is committed to mentoring tenure-track faculty members, as well as helping visiting assistant professors advance their research and teaching trajectories during their time at Loyola.

Responsibilities include

  • Teach courses in the general education core as well as both introductory and upper-division courses for English majors.
  • Show evidence of innovative scholarly and/or creative work (tenure-track applicants should have active publication plans)
  • Engage and support students from diverse backgrounds
  • Advise and mentor English majors (tenure-track)

Requirements

Applicants should have earned by time of employment a terminal degree in an appropriate discipline, as well as have ample teaching experience and an active research and/or creative agenda.
