The Japanese Department, a part of the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Program, at Whitman College is seeking candidates for a one-year position, at the rank of visiting assistant professor (or visiting instructor if a PhD has not been completed by the start of employment), beginning August 2023. The successful candidate will offer five courses in Japanese language, or four courses in Japanese and one course in the field of the candidate's specialization. The position is limited to the 2023-2024 academic year.
Qualified candidates will have a master's degree or higher in Japanese Studies, linguistics, language pedagogy, second language acquisition, or a related field in the humanities or social sciences; native or near native fluency in Japanese; and more than one year of experience in teaching Japanese at the college level.

Salary Range: $64,000-$67,000
