The Department of Literatures and Languages of the World invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in comparative literature with a specialization in modern Chinese literature, language and culture.

Responsibilities

The appointed candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses (divided equally between the CETASE – Center of Asian Studies – and the Department of Literatures and Languages of the World, comparative literature section), supervise graduate students, be active in research, publishing, and the dissemination of knowledge, participate in departmental life and contribute to the activities of the University.

Requirements

Ph.D. in comparative literature with a specialization in Chinese literature and culture, or Ph.D. in Chinese literature and culture with extensive knowledge of other literatures as well as literary and cultural theories.

Strong research record

Demonstrated ability to provide high quality university teaching

Knowledge of Chinese cinema or media is an advantage

Excellent knowledge of the Chinese language

An adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance with Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. An institutional learning support program is offered to all professors wishing to learn French or improve their communication skills.
