Assistant Professor of Practice - First-Year Writing

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University seeks an experienced and innovative educator to join its faculty as an assistant professor of practice specializing in teaching first-year writing (FYW).

The FYW program teaches approximately 4,500 students a semester in introduction and advanced composition. Since the program was reimagined in 2018, we have continually worked to improve the experience of the students enrolled in FYW, as well as those assigned to teach it as graduate teaching assistants. The successful candidate will contribute to our FYW program by teaching in our innovative lecture-discussion model and mentoring first-year TAs. In this model, a lead teacher teaches a 1-hour lecture of FYW (roughly 100 students) and mentors TAs who teach accompanying discussion sections that meet twice a week. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 3 lecture sections a semester and mentoring 6-10 TAs a semester.
