Instructor, Creative Writing

The English Department at Eastern Illinois University invites applications for a full-time lecturer in creative writing. Open genre, with the ability to teach in at least two genres required. (The department offers courses at both the undergraduate and MA level in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and playwriting/screenwriting.) Candidates with secondary areas of specialization in any area of English studies are welcome. The successful candidate will teach creative writing in our undergraduate and MA programs, as well as additional courses as appropriate. The lecturer will also share in the work of advising MA and undergraduate honors students who write creative theses. Some (but not all) of our creative writing classes are taught online, so the successful candidate must be interested in teaching online workshops. Service to our several reading series, annual literary festival, our faculty-edited literary magazine or creative writing related student organizations is optional but welcome. The position begins August 16, 2023.

An MFA or doctorate in English is required by time of appointment. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence are required.
