Position:                                 Assistant Professor Translation Studies and Global Romance Languages

Effective Date:                        August 17, 2020 (Fall Semester)

Salary Range:                         Commensurate with qualifications and experience

 

Required Qualifications:       

  • Ph.D. in Translation Studies, Intercomprehension, Multilingualism, Romance Languages, or related field
  • Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2020
  • Native or near-native fluency in at least two Romance languages and some proficiency in any third language and English
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the college level
  • Demonstrated potential for research and publication record
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:      

  • Experience or training in Proficiency Guidelines and their application: The Common European Framework, ACTFL Guidelines, etc.
  • Experience teaching Translation courses
  • Experience teaching Intercomprehension and/or Multilingualism
  • Experience in curriculum development, program building including student recruitment
  • Experience with CAT tools (i.e., translation and multilingual technologies) and the Digital Humanities
  • Experience managing applied language programs

Duties:                                   

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Translation Studies as well as courses in Intercomprehension and/or Multilingual teaching in the Romance languages
  • Engage and maintain an active research program, scholarly and creative activities leading to publications and presentations
  • Engage in grant writing and development projects that promote the departmental mission
  • Collaborate in assessment planning and implementation
  • Advance the department’s educational and research mission through curricular initiatives and development
  • Enhance departmental profile through the University and the community
  • Participate in service to department, college, university, and community
