Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish

Austin College invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages for the 2023-2024 academic year. Candidates must have Ph.D. in hand before August 2023. This is a one-year position.

Field of specialization is open. Research and teaching in Latin American and/or Peninsular cultures and literature is preferred. Candidates must show evidence of native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. Must be able to teach the full range of Spanish language, literature and culture courses offered in the program. Commitment to and evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching is especially important.  The position requires teaching introductory to upper-level undergraduate language, literature, and culture courses. The teaching load is three courses every fall and spring semester and a January Term course.

The successful candidate will have strong commitments to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment and to encouraging diversity in their classroom, in their pedagogy, and in their approach to Hispanic language, literature and culture. The successful candidate will show how their teaching and research agenda relate to the Austin College liberal arts curriculum, including the new general degree requirements (Systems of Power, Privilege, and Inequality; Global Diversity) and the writing curriculum.
