FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Romance Languages at Hunter College invites applications for a full-time doctoral lecturer in Italian Studies beginning Fall 2023.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach four courses per semester, from basic to advanced Italian language and Italian culture and literature in Italian and English, for minors, majors, and MA students. The Department is particularly interested in candidates with demonstrable teaching experience and research interest in modern and contemporary Italian culture, with scholarly expertise on at least one of these topics: Screen Studies, Food Studies, Ecocriticism, and African Diaspora in Italy. The faculty member filling this position will also participate in curricular planning and development and student advising to complement and support the teaching component of their charge.
Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Hunter College is the largest school in the network of public institutions that comprise the City University of New York. It maintains a strong commitment to providing a rigorous and affordable education in the liberal arts and sciences to a diverse student body.
The candidate will be expected to teach four courses per semester and participate in the administrative life of the Italian Program and the Romance Languages Department. They should be prepared to advise majors, minors, and undergraduates in Italian courses and MA students. Finally, they will be asked to design classes in English on Italian topics for the General Educations requirement at Hunter College.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Italian or Comparative Literature (with a focus on Italian Studies) by the Summer of 2023. They will be well-versed in teaching all levels of an undergraduate and graduate Italian curriculum, dedicated to working with students from various socio-cultural backgrounds, experienced and interested in language pedagogy, and able to demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in Italian and English. They will also teach courses on Italian topics in English that could be of interest to the Hunter student population at large.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience ($56,821 - $98,309)
