The School of Writing, Literature, and Film at Oregon State University invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professorship in 20th and 21st century American Literatures with specialization in Latinx-, Asian-, or African American (including Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latinx) Literatures beginning Fall 2023. The position consists of teaching (55%), research (35%), and service (10%). The teaching load is two courses per term over three quarters annually. Teaching responsibilities include lower-division undergraduate surveys, upper-division courses, and/or graduate seminars in relevant literary traditions, including topics of the candidate’s design. Mentoring of students is expected, including possible advising of graduate students in our MA program in Literature and Culture. We seek a candidate whose scholarship adds to the intellectual vibrancy of our community, and that shows potential for distinction in their field. The position includes mentoring and support for advancing one’s scholarship. Service includes committee work for the School and College.

All candidates must have a strong record of teaching and a Ph.D. in Literature or closely related field by time of appointment. We anticipate hiring a tenure-line faculty member in one of these fields in Fall 2024, and the selected candidate for this position will be encouraged to apply for the tenure-track position during their first year of residency.
