2-Year Professional-Track Faculty Position in German, Department of German Studies, University of Maryland (starting Fall 2023)

The Department of German Studies in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a 2-year professional-track faculty position as Lecturer in German starting August 21, 2023. This position is renewable contingent on funding. Area of specialization is open. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent teaching qualifications, a commitment to pedagogy and mentorship of students, and an interest in taking an active role in our dynamic program. The teaching load is equivalent to 21 credits (3/3 load) a year primarily at the undergraduate level, including introductory and advanced German language courses. Additional duties include service to the program such as supervision of graduate teaching assistants or language program coordination.

Candidates should exhibit a strong commitment to working with a diverse student population. Individuals from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Qualifications: Ph.D. in German or related field by time of appointment, evidence of excellence in college-level teaching, and native or near-native fluency in both German and English. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualification and ranges between $53,295 and $60,000 for a nine-month appointment. The position carries benefits, including health insurance, tuition remission, conference travel support, and assistance with relocation expenses.
