Director of the Mader Learning Center

Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, a Roman Catholic institution in southern Indiana, invites applications for the position of director of its Mader Learning Center to begin in August of 2023. The Center assists ESL students in mastering both fundamental and advanced reading, writing, and speaking skills to further their study of theology and their effective ministering in parish communities. In addition, the Center offers training to English-speaking students who need assistance in developing their study, writing, and/or spoken language skills. Responsibilities include managing the Center and individual and group tutoring. The qualified candidate must have administrative skills and experience in working with college-educated adults in the areas of language acquisition and accent reduction.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Masters degree in ESL, English, Education or related area with significant coursework/training in ESL
  • At least two years of ESL teaching experience with college-level students
  • Native English fluency in both spoken and written communication

Desired qualifications:

  • Effective communication and listening skills
  • Ability to relate to students, staff and faculty
  • Ability to design and teach courses using a variety of methods and materials
  • Familiarity with the use of recent technology for language acquisition
  • A familiarity with the Roman Catholic tradition

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer the Mader Learning Center
  • Offer individual and group tutoring to students in the seminary and Graduate Theology Program
  • Provide training and oversight of peer tutor program
  • Offer workshops on academic writing and research skills
  • Oversee Mader Learning Center language-learning resources
  • Maintain communication with the theology faculty
  • Attend faculty meetings
