Full-time Spanish Faculty

Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Manhattan invites applications for a full-time faculty position teaching Spanish language, literature, and culture courses beginning fall 2023.

We seek teacher-scholars who are creative in engaging students, and dedicated to working with adolescents.  The successful candidate will teach a total of four classes per semester.

Classes are in session from early September to early June.  PhD or PhD candidate with research interest in Latin American literature and culture is preferred.  Experience in working with younger students and demonstrated commitment to scholarship are desirable. Native fluency or its equivalent is required.  An ability to teach classes in translation is also a plus.

This full-time position provides the opportunity to work with a dedicated faculty of scholars, scientists and artists, most of whom hold terminal degrees in their fields.  In their four years here, BHSEC students earn an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College in addition to a New York State high school diploma.  The academic program emphasizes small class size, seminar-style discussion and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.

Compensation:  The compensation for teaching these classes is based on the NYC DOE salary scale found on this page: https://www.uft.org/your-rights/salary/doe-and-city-salary-schedules/teachers-salary-schedule-2018-2021
