Lecturer - Environmental Studies

The program in Environmental Studies (ENST) at Rice University in Houston, TX, invites applications for a full-time, benefits eligible, non-tenure track lecturer to begin July 1, 2023. This is a two-year appointment, conditional on successful performance reviews.

This search is open to candidates in any area of environmental studies/environmental humanities whose research and teaching emphasize environmental justice. The ENST curriculum is governed by Center for Environmental Studies, which is located in the schools of Humanities and Architecture. ENST is home to a thriving multidisciplinary undergraduate minor with growing enrollments and expanding opportunities for graduate students. Recent areas of growth in the curriculum include food studies, media studies, cultures of environmental health, and arts-based and community-engaged practices. Candidates must able to contribute invigorating courses to a robust curriculum serving students from widely across the university.

Duties will include teaching a range of courses, which could be smaller seminars or practica to, potentially, a large multidisciplinary introduction to environmental studies with a team of graduate students.

Candidates must have received a Ph.D. degree by July 1, 2023, in a relevant humanities discipline with a research emphasis on environmental studies as well as evidence of relevant teaching experience and excellence.
