Stanford Department of African and African American Studies Black Studies in the Arts Open Rank Faculty Search

The newly formed Department of African and African American Studies (DAAAS) at Stanford University is searching for scholars who research and teach in the field of Black Studies in the Arts. This is an open-rank search; the appointment may be at the rank of Assistant Professor (on the tenure-track), Associate Professor (with tenure), or Full Professor. The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2024. Applications will be accepted through October 1, 2023. 

We welcome applications from all candidates in the field of Black Studies, including scholars of art history, film and visual culture, performance, and musicology. We also welcome anthropologists, historians, philosophers, scholar-practitioners, and critical theorists whose research and teaching focus on Black Studies in the Arts. Scholars who employ transnational, intersectional, comparative, diasporic, decolonial, and interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged to apply. 

The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in the Department of African and African American Studies at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.

The salary range for this position is $112,194 - $281,161.
