Assistant Professor in French and Francophone Studies (Tenure-track)

Job no: 494530
Categories: Faculty
Department: French and Francophone Studies

The French and Francophone Studies Department at Davidson College invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in French and Francophone Studies with a specialization in French-speaking Africa (North Africa or West Africa) and their diaspora(s), to begin July 1, 2024.

The successful candidate should be prepared to teach all levels of French language as well as courses at the advanced levels in their specialty, with a possibility to teach occasionally in English in other programs, like Gender and Sexuality Studies, Arab Studies, Film and Media Studies, the Writing Program, etc. The teaching load is five courses per year, spread over two semesters (with a one course reduction in the first year). We encourage applicants with an engaged, dynamic, and communicative teaching style, as well as a demonstrated commitment to scholarly research and publishing. While not required, research proficiency in another language spoken in North or Sub-Saharan Africa, like Arabic, Berber languages, or Niger-Congo languages, would be given preference, as it might expand a candidate’s ability to advise a range of student projects in Francophone Studies. Our new colleague will also have the opportunity to participate in our study abroad program rotation.
