Assistant Professor in South Asian Literatures

The Department of English at Northwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in South Asian literatures to begin Fall 2020. The applicant’s research may emphasize any literary mode (including but not limited to fiction, poetry, or drama), and scholars whose projects are attentive to multiple linguistic traditions as well as forge generative links across historical periods or disciplinary fields are especially encouraged to apply.  Candidates with expertise in colonial literature(s), recent postcolonial critiques, comparative approaches, environmental humanities, and/or global, transregional, and transoceanic literary formations are similarly welcome.

Ideally, the candidate’s engagement with South Asian cultural production will complement our department's existing strengths in transregional and comparative literatures, as well as Northwestern's strengths in the Asian and global humanities more broadly.

For the initial application, please submit a cover letter, CV, dissertation abstract, writing sample of 20-25 pages, and three letters of recommendation to Application materials are due by November 15, 2019.
