Assistant Professor Spanish Linguistics (Tenure Track)

The School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures at the University of Missouri-Columbia invites applications for a full-time (9 month), benefit eligible, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Spanish to begin August 1, 2024.  The department seeks applicants with a PhD in Applied linguistics, Education, or a related interdisciplinary combination of those fields.  The ideal candidate will be able to teach classes in Second Language Acquisition, Introduction to Spanish Linguistics for Educators, Bilingual / Multilingual Research Methodology, and / or Heritage Language Pedagogy as well as advanced Spanish language courses. The teaching load will be 2-2.

The successful candidate will show evidence of scholarly achievement or potential as demonstrated by top-tier, innovative, interdisciplinary publications and/or works in progress; a capacity for excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as both a specialist and a generalist; and a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations. Applicants must have a PhD by the time of appointment and native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English. Successful candidates must be able to support and mentor future Spanish language teachers at the undergraduate and graduate levels as part of our program. As faculty teaching in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary and multilingual department with specializations in Afro-Romance Studies; Refugee & Migration Studies, world language teaching, and more, and as part of a college dedicated to interdisciplinarity, this hire is also expected to contribute to collaborative and cross-campus initiatives.
