The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures at Texas Tech University invites applications for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Spanish (Latin American Literature and Cultural Studies) to begin in Fall 2024. We seek a dynamic scholar and teacher with a transdisciplinary understanding of the field. Area of specialization open.
Candidates must demonstrate strong scholarly achievement in the form of a sustained record of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of substantial contributions to the field; a proven record of excellent teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as both a specialist and a generalist; an ongoing commitment to student-centered program building; and mentoring graduate students and junior faculty. The candidate must have the Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is required. Candidates with the proven capacity or potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are strongly encouraged to apply. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extracurricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.
The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, multilingual department that houses an expanding Spanish program with a strong Latin American focus driven by internationally recognized researchers and a thriving graduate program supported by 14 tenured or tenure-track Spanish and Portuguese faculty and 7 lecturers. The Spanish MA and PhD programs currently enroll more than 30 graduate students, and there are over 70 Spanish undergraduate majors and 250 minors. Faculty are eligible to lead semester or summer study abroad programs at the university’s campus in Seville, Spain, and have the opportunity develop the study abroad program at the Texas Tech University campus in Costa Rica. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.
