The English Department at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track position in African American literature at the rank of Assistant Professor. We welcome applicants with expertise in any historical period or aspect of African American and African Diasporic literature and culture, including interdisciplinary and intersectional approaches. The successful candidate should demonstrate an ability to teach advanced undergraduate courses in the candidate's area of specialization as well as introductory literature courses within Loyola's core curriculum. The candidate will also have the opportunity to offer courses within Loyola's interdisciplinary minor in African and African American Studies. Successful candidates will have an interest, appreciation for, or experience with high-impact teaching practices. Faculty responsibilities include teaching three classes each semester, with no composition; ongoing, peer-reviewed scholarly publication; and service to the department and university. A Ph.D. in African American Literature or a closely related field is required by August 2024. Priority application deadline: October 23, 2023.
