The anticipated starting date is August 15, 2024.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Spanish, Latin American Studies, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature, or a related field, and possess superior abilities to communicate in Spanish and English. Preference will be given to candidates who focus on film studies and/or visual culture. Candidates with experience in Public Humanities and/or research and teaching knowledge of multiple traditions/cultures/languages in Latin America, or of another language taught in the Department (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, and Portuguese) are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates must demonstrate teaching excellence in Spanish and be capable of teaching upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses on Latin American cultural production, including but not limited to visual culture, film, media studies, literature, and/or critical theory. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda; teach and advise students in our interdisciplinary Ph.D. program; and contribute to curricular development and extracurricular activities in Spanish (and, ideally, at least one of our other undergraduate programs). Teaching and research collaborations are possible with the university’s Center for Global Black Studies and programs in Latin American Studies, Native American and Global Indigenous Studies, and Gender and Sexuality Studies.
Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. (completed before August 15, 2024) in Spanish, Latin American Studies, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature, or a related field.
