The Department of English at the University of Southern California seeks an assistant professor of Latinx studies to start August 2024. We are searching to hire someone who specializes in any of the following areas: Central and South American, Afro-Latinx, and/or Latinx Digital and Popular Culture, Indigenous studies, and/or Narrative studies.
Our department wishes to build on the existing strength of faculty working on Latinx studies across several departments at USC. Given our department's emphasis on the porousness between scholarship and creative writing, we also encourage applications from scholars who write in other genres, and for public audiences (from criticism to creative non-fiction, fiction and poetry) in addition to their scholarly work. A PhD is required at time of appointment.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, a writing sample of no more than 30 pages, and the names of three people who will submit letters of reference. In order to be considered for this position, applicants are required to submit an electronic USC application; follow this job link or paste in a browser: https://usccareers.usc.edu/job/los-angeles/assistant-professor-of-english/1209/53758065568 . Letters will be requested upon the first round of assessment. The deadline to apply is November 1, 2023, by 5pm PDT.
The annual base salary range for this position is $99,800 - $105,400. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
USC is an equal-opportunity educator and employer, proudly pluralistic and firmly committed to providing equal opportunity for outstanding persons of every race, gender, creed and background. The university particularly encourages members of underrepresented groups, veterans and individuals with disabilities to apply. USC will make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with known disabilities unless doing so would result in an undue hardship.
