The Department of English at Washington University in St. Louis seeks to fill an open rank tenure-track or tenured position in Early Modern Literature. We are searching for a scholar and teacher of exceptional promise whose research has developed within the field of early modern literature, with appreciable strength in Shakespeare studies. We are especially excited to recruit a scholar whose interests intersect with one or more of our departmental areas of strength, including literary scholarship and creative practice, gender and sexuality, media histories, and race and empire. A Ph.D. in English or closely related field is required by the start of the appointment for this position, and candidates for the rank of associate professor or professor must have an outstanding teaching, service, research, and publication record commensurate with tenure at that rank. This position carries a teaching expectation of two courses per semester and will begin in the fall of 2024. Other duties will include conducting research, writing for publication, advising students, and participating in departmental governance and university service. The search committee will begin their review of applications on October 2, 2023. We plan to hold Zoom interviews for selected candidates for this position in early December, with campus visits to follow in January and early February.
