Job Title: Hispanic Linguistics

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University announces a search for a candidate to fill a CFS-track (analogous to tenure-track) opening, which may also be filled by a visiting faculty. We are particularly interested in candidates working in the field of Hispanic linguistics. Initial rank will be consistent with qualifications and experience.

Job Classification: Full-Time CFS-Professorial but may be filled with a visiting faculty.

Required Degree: PhD in Hispanic Linguistics, Linguistics, or its foreign equivalent. The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience: Experience teaching Spanish courses, including Hispanic Linguistics, at the university level and performing scholarly research. Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English is also required.

Duties/Expectations:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  1. Teach six courses per year. These include service courses that are required for a variety of department programs (including majors and minors) as well as more specialized courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The latter include MA-level offerings.
  2. Advise undergraduate and graduate students, including them in mentored research initiatives.
  3. Maintain a robust research agenda which should result in regular publications in respected venues.
  4. Lend service to the college, university, and profession at large, as well as contribute actively to the life of the department.
