Assistant Professor of Italian

Stanford University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Italian with a starting date of September 1, 2024. As part of Stanford's Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages – an innovative consortium of departments that collaborate on curricular and research initiatives – the Department of French and Italian fosters comparative and interdisciplinary work. We welcome applications from a scholar of any period who can teach Dante, engaging with broader global and transhistorical issues. We are especially interested in a researcher and teacher who can put the Italian tradition in dialogue with other literary and cultural traditions, or other disciplines (such as art history, media studies, philosophy, film studies).

Candidates will be expected to teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Native or near native fluency in Italian and English is required; fluency in one or more additional languages is preferred. Candidates are expected to have the Ph.D. in hand by the appointment start date (September 1, 2024) and must demonstrate a distinguished record of scholarly publication as well as excellence in teaching.

The salary range for this position is $105,000 – $112,863 for 2023-24. 

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity.
