The Department of Comparative Literature at Stanford University is seeking applications for a tenure-line Assistant Professor in the Literatures of the hemispheric cultures of the Américas, including research from the Pre-Columbian to contemporary periods, with special emphasis on the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The Department of Comparative Literature is part of the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages, a consortium of departments that collaborate on curricular and research initiatives and on hiring. Topics of interest include Indigenous and Latinx studies; American poetry and poetics conceived from a comparative, hemispheric perspective; environmental and ecological criticism; interdisciplinary work in the social sciences and humanities. The focus on literatures and cultural practices could include consideration of the multiple and varied systems of meaning- and knowledge-production within what has been termed the decolonized epistemologies of the Global South in the hemispheric Américas.
The candidate will be expected to teach four courses (a mixture of graduate and undergraduate) per year. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature. We anticipate a start date of September 1, 2024. Ph.D. required by the appointment start date.

The salary range for this position is $105,000– $112,863 for 2023-24.
