Position description

 



The Department of Literature at UC San Diego invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor specializing in the field of Contemporary Mexican Literature and Culture. We seek a colleague to teach, and design new courses in Mexican literature, film, and/or culture in Spanish and English for undergraduates and graduate students. Candidates will also be expected to conduct and publish research in peer-reviewed academic venues, advise undergraduate and graduate thesis projects, and contribute to departmental and university-level service.

We are a global, interdisciplinary department seeking a specialist in Mexican literature and culture (20th and 21st century) with in-depth knowledge of the debates surrounding cultural production both in Mexico, the United States, and Latin America.

We also seek a candidate whose research, teaching, and service will advance UC San Diego's transition to HSI and/or objectives of anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity, and social justice with a focus on the Latinx/Chicanx community.

Authorization to work in US is a prerequisite of employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1985).

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (Required at Time of Application)

ABD in Latin American Studies, Hispanic Studies, Romance Languages and Literatures, Comparative Literature, or related fields at the time of application

Competence in Spanish and English is expected

Additional qualifications (Required at Time of Start)

  • PhD in Latin American Studies, Hispanic Studies, Romance Languages and Literatures, Comparative Literature, or related fields by the time of appointment


Preferred qualifications

  • Experience designing and teaching undergraduate and graduate literature courses
  • Preferred candidates will demonstrate historical depth in their approach and evince a strong research agenda
  • While genres, historical periods, and methodologies are open, work and interest in science fiction, narco literature, immigration, or historical fiction is preferred
