Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Black European Studies

The Department of European Languages and Transcultural Studies is an innovative program eager to enhance curricular diversity and expand our existing strengths in critical race studies as well as research and teaching related to diaspora and race, ethnic and religious minorities, immigration, and gender/sexuality. This is an open-rank position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). A PhD in a related humanistic field is required. Appointment effective as of July 1, 2024.

We are seeking to hire a new colleague with expertise in any area of Black European Studies – such as Black France, Black Germany, Black Italy, or Black Scandinavian Studies – and would be especially interested in research conducted within a transcultural framework. Applicants should have fluency in at least one of the main language traditions of the department (French, German, Italian, and/or Scandinavian languages), and may work in film and media studies, literary studies, cultural studies, translation, and/or any area of the experimental humanities (digital, environmental, medical, urban, or public humanities).

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment []. See Table 1. The salary range for this position is $74,600-$197,100. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
