The Literature and Creative Writing Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2024. We seek candidates with scholarly expertise in African American Literature of any historical period with the ability to teach a broad range of African American literature and cultural studies. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations. Your cover letter should address ways in which you raise issues of diversity and inclusion in your teaching, scholarship, and/or service. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year.
The Department of Literature and Creative Writing offers innovative concentrations and minors in literature written in or translated into English and creative writing. The department, one of the College’s largest, consists of 15 tenured and pre-tenure faculty, who teach and do scholarly and creative work in a wide variety of fields. Candidates with ABD in English or Comparative Literature or related fields will be considered, although candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred. The teaching load for this position is four courses during the first year and five courses thereafter. The expected annual salary range for this position is $88,000 to $94,100.
