We are seeking to hire a tenure-track faculty member with culturally diverse perspectives in Composition and Rhetoric. Areas of preferred emphasis include composition studies, strategies and methods for teaching writing, critical pedagogy, rhetorical theory, and writing program administration. Areas of preferred secondary emphasis include histories of rhetoric; decolonial rhetorics; ethnic rhetorics, which may include Native American and indigenous rhetorics, African American rhetorics, Asian and Pacific American rhetorics, and/or Chicanx and Latinx rhetorics; queer rhetorics; feminist or women’s rhetorics; linguistics; literacy studies; digital/multimodal writing; social justice writing; writing across the curriculum; writing in the disciplines; professional and technical writing; comparative rhetorics; or civic rhetoric. The appointee will be expected to teach a range of courses on writing, language structure, and composition pedagogy at the upper division as well as the graduate (M.A.) levels, in addition to lower-division, introductory, and general education courses in the field of Composition and Rhetoric. The appointee will also develop courses in their specialties, particularly at the senior and graduate levels. Faculty generally teach 3 classes per semester. A reduced teaching load is provided for the first two years. The appointee should also be prepared to participate in the administration of department writing programs, such as writing center administration, TA training, and coordination of upper- and lower-level composition courses. Evidence of an active research program and high-quality teaching is required.
CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. The primary responsibilities of the person in this position will include the development and teaching of introductory and core courses in the discipline and the development of courses in their area(s) of specialization.
