Assistant Professor in Italian Studies

The Department of Romance Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (http://romancestudies.unc.edu) invites applications for a full-time position: tenure-track Assistant Professor in Italian Studies to begin July 1, 2024. We encourage applications from innovative scholars with interdisciplinary research interests who can contribute to dynamic undergraduate and graduate programs in Italian Studies. The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of scholars and students with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and support through research units such as the Center for European Studies, the Center for African Studies, the Carolina Asia Center, and the Program in Medieval and Early Modern Studies. Required minimum qualifications are: Ph.D. in Italian, Comparative Literature, or related field at time of employment and native or near-native proficiency in Italian and English. The successful candidate will have a record of teaching excellence and a strong research portfolio. Research areas we are looking to strengthen include but are not limited to: postcolonial studies, transnational studies, early modern studies, cinema, visual cultures, and gender and sexuality studies. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program, perform service for the department and for other, teach a range of courses in Italian Studies, and advise a share of PhD dissertations.
