Denison University seeks an active creative nonfiction writer and an engaged and effective teacher for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of English. The successful candidate must be able to teach across the genres (including creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry) and to contribute to courses in Denison’s English and journalism majors. The annual 3/2 teaching assignment will typically include some combination of the following courses: a multi-genre introductory creative writing course, a survey course in literary journalism that is a core requirement in the journalism major, an advanced creative writing workshop in creative nonfiction, and introductory and advanced courses of the candidate’s own design. Teaching in the department also includes the supervision of small groups of senior creative writing majors on their year-long senior projects. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the literary traditions of historically marginalized or underrepresented peoples and with the potential to contribute to one or more of Denison's interdisciplinary programs.
Successful candidates must be engaged and effective teachers who have a strong record of publication and an active creative agenda. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience. They will be expected to actively contribute to the English Department and the college community as a whole. We anticipate our new colleague will engage in service activities within these communities in a way that is congruent with their work as a teacher-scholar. Our new colleague will be expected to maintain an active creative agenda that results in publications in order to gain tenure.
