This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.

The Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies at Texas Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a specialization in Mexican Literature and/or Mexican Cultural Studies, effective August 2024. The successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D. in Spanish and Hispanic Studies or a directly related field by the date of employment. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English is required. The candidate should have at least one year of teaching experience in US institutions at the university level.

Job duties:
• 2/3 teaching load in a combination of Spanish language and Latin American literature and cultures courses.
• Conducting original research including refereed publications and scholarly conference presentations.
• Serving on department, college, and university committees.
• Participating in SHS department meetings and curriculum development.

Required Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Spanish (or equivalent) by the start of appointment.
• Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.
• Specialization in Mexican literature, culture and/or film and a strong research agenda in this field.
• Proven and successful experience teaching Spanish language, composition, conversation, and Latin American literature and culture in Spanish in a college or university.
• Demonstrated record of or potential for commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access efforts.

Department Details:

Housed in the AddRan College of Liberal Arts, the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies is supported by 13 faculty members (6 with tenure, 6 instructors, and 1 lecturer) who teach nearly 800 students per semester. The Department has approximately 50 majors and 300 minors.

School/College Description:

Named for TCU’s founders, Addison and Randolph Clark, the AddRan College of Liberal Arts is home to the core academic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences. The College includes approximately 155 full-time faculty members, 13 departments (Comparative Race & Ethnic Studies, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, English, Geography, History, Modern Language Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology & Anthropology, Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and Women & Gender Studies), and two units of Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (Army and Air Force). AddRan College departments confer 17 Bachelor of Arts and 7 Bachelor of Science degrees, a Bachelor of General Studies, an online master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, a Master of Liberal Arts degree, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in History, English, and Rhetoric and Composition.
