The department of Romance Studies at Duke University invites applications for three tenure-track assistant professor positions in Global Romance Studies, specifically in the areas of 20th and 21st century global Spain; French and Francophone Studies (all periods); and Indigenous Latin American Studies.
As a multilingual, interdisciplinary, and genuinely global department, we are especially interested in candidates whose work engages with the topics of migration studies, translation studies, environmental humanities, transhistorical approaches, social movements, performance studies, and gender and sexuality studies, as well as candidates whose specializations complement the research of our current faculty. In addition to the promise of groundbreaking scholarship in their fields, candidates must have a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching and clear potential to contribute actively to the intellectual life of Romance Studies and the humanities as a whole.
Interested candidates should submit the following: a cover letter that addresses research and teaching; a curriculum vitae; a writing sample; and the names of three recommenders. Letters of recommendation and additional materials (including teaching and diversity statements) will be requested only for those interviewed. Applications should be submitted via AJO by November 1st. Initial interviews will be held virtually between December 7 and 15. On-campus interviews will take place in January and February. A PhD in hand is required by the time of the appointment. The position will begin July 1, 2024.
