Position Details
The Department of English and Writing within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa seeks an outstanding writer and teacher of creative nonfiction for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2024.
The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. UT reflects this vibrancy; with 24 consecutive years of enrollment growth UT boasts 260 student organizations, a multicultural student body from 50 states and more than 100 countries, and "Top Tier" ranking in U.S. News and World Report.
We seek a candidate with experience in or a desire to lead program and curricular development, assessment, and/or student-centered activities. A terminal degree in creative writing is required by the time the position begins, and strong candidates will have an established record of publication with a clear trajectory for future success.
Our recently redesigned and expanded creative writing curriculum offers opportunities for the new hire to design and teach courses in their areas of specialization. The University of Tampa, an independent, private institution, is committed to diversity and academic freedom. We particularly seek candidates whose writing, experiences, and interests give voice to historically underrepresented communities. The new hire will be encouraged to contribute to student-centered events and foster an inclusive and diverse learning environment to help students to grow as writers.
The Department of English and Writing serves both our majors and the university's Spartan Studies general education curriculum. Tenure-track faculty in the department teach a 3/3 load, divided equally between courses in the faculty member's area of expertise and academic writing classes. Successful candidates will, therefore, demonstrate a dedication to and experience teaching both creative nonfiction and academic writing. We hope to find a candidate who can situate their teaching within a diverse, inclusive, and global context.
