The Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing. The Department seeks candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of the academic community through teaching, other forms of engagement with students outside of the classroom, creative work and service activities. The appointment begins August 22, 2024 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 22 & 23, 2024.

The Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing is a vibrant community of scholars, writers, publishers, and designers with over 100 full- and part-time faculty members, 500 undergraduate majors in four different degree programs, and nearly 400 graduate students in its two MFA programs and in the Publishing MA program.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a poet with a published or forthcoming book from a press with a national or international reputation. Candidates should have an MFA in creative writing, a terminal degree in a related field, or substantial publications equivalent to a terminal degree. Poetry published in nationally or internationally recognized journals or anthologies from major publishers is required. Additionally, two to three years of teaching experience in creative writing: poetry at the college level is required.

Primary teaching duties include creative writing courses at both the BFA and MFA level, and in both the residential and online programs. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, student mentorship, assisting in the graduate admission process, and serving on other department and college committees.

Interested applicants must complete an online application form and submit a 2-3 page cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information for three references. (references will not be contacted until after the first round of interviews upon applicants' written approval) The cover letter should address three items: the candidate's creative writing and publications; the candidate's teaching philosophy; and the candidate's approach to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.

Review of applications will begin on November 8, 2023, and priority will be given to applications submitted prior to that date. The position will remain open until filled.
