Assistant Professor of English
Northern State University seeks one full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English to begin August 2024.
Qualifications: The Department of English, Communication and Global Languages seeks a PhD in English/Composition and Rhetoric. (Note: ABD with definite completion date will be considered.) The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate
education and the ability to build an effective rapport with understand students in an on-campus environment. The department is looking specifically for a candidate with a strong interest in multi-modal rhetoric/digital humanities and media studies/journalism.
Responsibilities: The applicant will teach twelve credit hours per semester in both introductory and upper-level English and journalism. The teaching load will include first and second semester composition, advanced writing courses, contemporary rhetoric, and potentially screenwriting.
The hire will also be expected to serve as advisor for the university’s newspaper (currently print and online), The Exponent. Other expectations include research and scholarly activity, career advising, maintaining a strong campus presence, supporting student recruitment and retention
efforts, and other duties as assigned, such as teaching First Year Seminar.
