Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies  (Non-Tenure track)

The Department of History, Political Science, Languages & Cultures at Otterbein University, a comprehensive liberal arts institution, is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies, non-tenure-track. We seek candidates who are committed to teaching and to service-based activities focused in the department, University, community and/or profession. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and contribute to the department’s efforts to enhance diversity and provide an inclusive learning environment for all. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Ph.D. in Spanish, Latin American Studies, or related fields. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish. Candidates should have evidence of success teaching undergraduates in courses in Spanish and Latin American studies.   

RESPONSIBILITIES: The ideal candidate will be a generalist, able to teach all levels of Spanish language courses, courses in composition, conversation, literature, history, and culture. There is also a need to teach history and culture courses in Otterbein’s Integrative Studies program, the heart of our general education requirements. The teaching load will be four courses each semester. Candidates will also be responsible for advising SLAS majors and minors, working to help recruit new majors, and supporting the SLAS program as needed.  

For the Spring, 2024 semester (beginning January 8, 2024), the successful candidate will need to be prepared to teach the following courses:  

• SPAN 3300: Iberian Literatures and Film  
• SPAN 2300: Applied Spanish Writing Skills  
• SPAN 1000: Elementary Spanish 1 (two sections)  

WHEN: January 3, 2024. This full-time visiting position is a three-semester visiting line, extending from January 3 to May 17, 2024, and then from Aug 5, 2024, through May 23, 2025.
