This is an open rank search, and the position requires a Ph.D. degree and native or near-native proficiency in both German and English. The candidate will teach all levels of German language study, from beginning levels that build linguistic foundation in the language, to the intermediate level where the foundation is expanded and tailored for creative use of the language, up to the advanced level for content courses. Content courses can focus on culture, civilization, film, literature, politics, transnational commerce, and/or history. Denison’s teaching load is 3 / 2 or 5 courses per academic year. Our new colleague will mentor and supervise undergraduates in directed studies, summer research, and senior exercises as well as advise students through their course of study at Denison. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching undergraduates.
We seek a colleague with a creative imagination for curricular innovation and program development, thus we seek a candidate with varied and multifarious educational training and experience. This candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to other interdisciplinary programs and larger Denison curricular offerings such as Denison Seminars (team-taught, often with a travel component) and First Year Writing courses.
