Lecturer in French
The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Elon University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in French beginning August 2024. This position is a permanent, non-tenure line with the opportunity to apply for continuance in the fourth year and the position of Senior Lecturer in the sixth year. The ideal candidate will be an exemplary teacher with a master’s degree or Ph.D. in French/Francophone Studies or a related field, with native or near-native proficiency in French and English. Interested applicants should demonstrate high levels of collegiality, the ability to contribute to a vibrant French section, and a willingness to collaborate as part of a diverse and dynamic department that is home to eight languages.
Elon faculty members are teacher-scholar-mentors who place dynamic teaching at the forefront of what they do and who also engage in professional activity, student mentoring and extracurricular initiatives. Fundamental responsibilities of the lecturer will include teaching 7 classes per year in a content-oriented curriculum that aims to integrate language and authentic cultural exploration at all levels of instruction. Successful candidates will demonstrate academic rigor in their teaching and active engagement in course and curricular design. Teaching will include all levels of French language and culture(s), and courses in the Elon Core Curriculum. An ability to teach phonetics, business French, and our pre-, during, and post-study abroad reflection courses is desirable.
