Distinguished Professor in Contemporary Latin American Studies

The Department of Romance Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (http://romancestudies.unc.edu) invites applications for a full-time, tenured position: Distinguished (full) Professor in contemporary Latin American Studies to begin July 1, 2024. We encourage applications from innovative scholars with interdisciplinary research interests who can contribute to dynamic undergraduate programs in Hispanic Studies and the graduate program in Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures. The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of scholars and students with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and support through research units such as the Institute for the Study of the Americas, the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Research in Black Culture and History, the American Indian Center, and UNC’s Latino/a Studies Program. Required minimum qualifications are: Ph.D. in Spanish, Comparative Literature, or related field at time of employment and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. The successful candidate will have a distinguished research portfolio, a record of teaching excellence, and administrative experience. Research areas we are looking to strengthen include but are not limited to: film studies, performance studies, queer and gender studies, border studies, Caribbean studies, Indigenous studies, and Afro-Latin American studies. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program, teach a range of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and perform service for the department and university, along with a share of advising PhD dissertations. The position carries a 2-2 teaching load.
