Assistant Professor in Korean Studies

The Department of Asian & Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University in Durham, NC invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Korean studies to begin July 1, 2024. We are seeking candidates specialized in Korean cultural studies. Candidates with transnational and global perspectives on gender, race, sexuality, and migration are especially welcome to apply.  As part of the Department’s multi-search initiative in Japanese, Korean, and South Asian studies, the Department welcomes candidates who will engage with colleagues across languages and cultures covered by the department and the larger Duke community. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in Korean and English is required.

 

Interested candidates should submit the following: a cover letter; a curriculum vitae; a writing sample of 25-30 pages; a three-page research statement that includes a description of research accomplishments, plans for future research, experience and approach to mentoring, and the candidate’s approach to supporting a diverse and inclusive research environment; a sample syllabus, a one-page statement describing teaching philosophy, previous experiences and future plans for teaching, and the candidate’s experience and approach to fostering an inclusive learning and mentoring environment for their students; and 3 reference letters.
