The Department of Comparative Literature at Brown University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position, at the assistant professor level, in modern Chinese literature. The subfield of specialization is open. We encourage applications from candidates whose work breaks transregional or otherwise innovative and comparative ground, including those who work on non-Mandarin Chinese languages.
The appointment will begin on July 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. A Ph.D. or equivalent is required by time of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English is required. The department places a high priority on research excellence, high-quality teaching, and on fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community. Interested candidates should speak to their ability to contribute to each of these three areas in a letter of application. Please also submit a curriculum vitae, an article-length sample of scholarly writing (essay or dissertation/manuscript chapter), and three letters of recommendation via Interfolio. Review of applications will begin on November 1st, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled. To assure full consideration applicants should submit their materials by that date.
