Assistant Professor, French

The School of International Letters & Cultures (SILC) at Arizona State University (Tempe Campus) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of French Linguistics. We seek a candidate who specializes in French Linguistics with a global focus and with interests including (but not limited to) French language outside of France, the use and status of French language in different social and cultural milieus, French language in global media, linguistic hybridity and foreign influences on French language, and the teaching of French as a foreign language. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research publishable in top-tier journals, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in a variety of classroom settings (in person, online, hybrid), and participate in service to the university and profession appropriate with rank. All tenure-track faculty in SILC engage in research, teaching, and service. Anticipated start date is August 16, 2024.  

Required Qualifications
●    By time of appointment, PhD with a specialization in French Linguistics or a related field
●    Native or near-native proficiency in French and English
●    Strong evidence of (or demonstrated potential for) excellence in research and teaching
●    Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
Desired Qualifications
●    Publication record in French Linguistics and related fields
●    Secondary specialization or focus in Francophone studies, translation studies, comparative linguistics, environmental humanities, medical humanities, disability studies, European studies, or gender and sexuality studies
●    Ability to employ pedagogical technologies, including course management systems, digital media, and other tools as appropriate to deliver course content, facilitate student interaction and production, and assess student outcomes
●    Experience developing and teaching online classes
