The Department of English at Yale University seeks to make two tenured or tenure-track appointments in American and/or British literature since 1945. Appointments may be made at the assistant, tenured associate, or full professor ranks.

We seek to appoint scholars doing cutting-edge research and teaching in any area of American or British literature, broadly defined. We welcome applications from scholars working within national traditions as well as those pursuing transatlantic, hemispheric, diasporic, multiethnic, postcolonial, and other nontraditional approaches. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity for original scholarship, a strong commitment to teaching, and a willingness to work collaboratively on academic projects within and beyond Yale. The normal teaching load is two courses per semester.

All applicants should submit a cover letter and CV online at http://apply.interfolio.com/132697. ABDs, recent PhDs, and untenured candidates should also provide three letters of recommendation and a writing sample of 5,000-10,000 words. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date for these appointments is July 1, 2024, and a PhD is required at the time of hire. Candidates may direct questions to the search committee chair, Professor Caleb Smith (caleb.smith@yale.edu), or senior administrative assistant Jamie Morris (jamie.morris@yale.edu).
