Assistant Professor of Victorian British Literature

Summary Information
The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Victorian British Literature to begin Fall 2024.  

Required Qualifications
In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants must have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and graduate levels within or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Additional required qualifications are:  

1. PhD in Victorian British Literature by time of hire  

2. At least one semester of teaching at the undergraduate level (including teaching while a graduate student), including a demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher 

3. Research specialization in Victorian British Literature with a focus on empire and colonial encounters  

4. A record of peer-reviewed publication which has contributed to the discipline and/or a demonstrated promising research and publishing agenda in the field. 

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: 

1. Research interests in exploring questions related to racial formation, transnationalism, transatlantic studies, and/or “undisciplining” Victorian studies.   

2. Expertise in book history and/or digital humanities. 

3. Commitment to service and outreach.

The Department of English is a diverse, dynamic, and interdisciplinary department with 45 tenure-line faculty and undergraduate and graduate degree programs in English and in Technical Communication and Rhetoric. Tenure-line faculty in the department teach a 2/2 at both the undergraduate and graduate level, in onsite, hybrid, and online modalities. Faculty enjoy excellent facilities that support their teaching and research, including dynamic technology-rich classrooms and departmental labs and studios, including the Digital Humanities Lab, Letterpress Studio, Media Lab, Phonetic and Phonology Linguistics Lab, and User Experience Lab. Our undergraduate and graduate programs support students whose research and creative interests span English studies, and the Department houses many interdisciplinary programs and initiatives, including Comparative Literature, Globalization, and Translation (CLGT), Linguistics, Book History and Digital Humanities, Film and Media Studies, and Literature, Social Justice, and Environment (LSJE).
