Job Description:
The Department of English Language and Literature at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English, specializing in one or more areas of multi-ethnic American literature. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any area of multi-ethnic American literature, including but not limited to Latinx, African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Native American literatures. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the needs of a diverse student body in the context of an open-enrollment public university.

The expected start date for this position is July 1, 2024.

Job Duties:
Expectations for this position include teaching undergraduate courses from first-year composition to upper division and graduate courses; engaging in research; providing service to the department, college, and university; and a demonstrated commitment to student success. The teaching load is typically four (4) courses per semester. The position is salaried and includes a generous benefits package.

  • Ph.D. in English/Literature or a related field, including but not limited to American Studies or Ethnic Studies by July 1, 2024.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the university level.

  • Potential for an active and productive career as a scholar, as demonstrated by engagement with the field through relevant publications and presentations.
  • Two (2) or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level
  • Experience teaching online and face-to-face

The Weber State University English department houses undergraduate programs in literature, creative writing, professional and technical writing, linguistics, and English education, as well as a Master of Arts program. Founded in 1889, Weber State University is located 35 miles north of downtown Salt Lake City in Ogden, Utah, which is considered the northern edge of the Salt Lake City metro area. It is an open-enrollment university with 26,000 students. Weber State and the Ogden area receive over 220 days of sunshine annually and boast a thriving arts scene, proximity to two major ski areas, and a stunning campus at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
