Lecturer in Japanese Studies

The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures of Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applicants for a renewable term, full-time Lecturer position in Japanese Studies (non tenure-track). The teaching load is seven courses, distributed across three quarters (Fall, Winter, Spring; e.g. 2-3-2).

Required qualifications include: Ph.D. (ABD may be considered) in the field of Japanese Language, Culture or Linguistics; at least two years of excellence in teaching as instructor of record in Japanese language at the university level; demonstrated expertise with communicatively-oriented, proficiency-oriented and Standards-based language instruction and assessment; Native or near native proficiency (oral & written production and comprehension) skills in Japanese and English; evidence of creativity in curriculum innovation and in enhancing students’ learning experience outside of the classroom, including organizing cultural events, academic presentations, etc.
